It’s time to close out the “How are you using Virtual Appliances” readers poll.

The results (54 responses)

• 41% For production deployment of applications
• 37% For evaluating software
• 17% Planning to use them in the future
• 6% What is a virtual appliance

What can we conclude from this? Not much really, but polls are fun.

At JumpBox we’ve also been running a survey that asks a similar question. “How do you use virtualization in your company?” Here are the results from that so far. This was from a larger sample size.

• 48.1% Use in testing and development of our own software.
• 41.7% Run production applications under virtualization.
• 49.1% Evaluate other products as virtual appliances.
• 18.5% Don’t currently use.

Again, not too much can be concluded from this in general terms. Much of JumpBox’s traffic comes from VMWare so you’d expect a heavy bias toward people already using virtualization and virtual appliances.
