Reflections on Virtualization for the SMB

Computer Technology Review is taking a look at virtualization from the perspective of the small to mid-size business. This is good to see as most articles are very focused on the enterprise space even though virtualization can bring some really big benefits to smaller companies as well.

It is all too tempting to look at the SMB as just a smaller version of the enterprise data center. But the yawning difference between the SMB and the enterprise in terms of the delta in budgetary resources, staffing resources, legacy resources and the IT mission makes this vision difficult to sustain.

Virtualization and virtual appliances will bring about some interesting innovations aimed squarely at delivering software and services into this space.
