Please NO, not Virtualization 2.0

Last week I was at the Office 2.0 conference in San Fransico and I heard the term Office 2.0 so many times it was making me ill. The conference was mildly interesting, but by the end of it the Office 2.0 term was just tired. I’ve felt the Web 2.0 term has been useful, but now people are slapping 2.0 onto everything so I guess it had to happen to virtualization as well. Well, thanks to Vernon Turner of IDC we now have Virtualization 2.0

While virtualization has allowed organizations to maximize the use of their computing hardware, he added that the technology must now evolve into “virtualization 2.0″, what he describes as the next phase of development which includes mobility and portability.

Ugh!, thanks so much. Even better, along with throwing out “Virtualization 2.0″, Vernon also trots out SOA in an attempt to make some kind of point that, oh never mind … move along nothing to see here.

      Kimbro,

Really so true. My ass begins to twitch (as Kevin Kline would say)when they talk about 2.0…

yea the part where they asked the panelists to rate their own 2.0-ness and people were saying “I’m about at Office 1.87″ was just too much.
