Virtualization market booming according to IDC

$2.7 billion by 2009, that’s the prediction by IDC for the size of the virtualization market by 2009 according to the headline of the article from Computerworld NZ. This article is a little confusing though. I think that number is actually from Humphreys rather than IDC and it’s in New Zealand dollars. In US dollars it’s $1.8 billion. There’s no actual quote from IDC for a US $2.7 billion virtualization market. Here’s what they really say.

In a separate report, Worldwide Virtual Machine Software 2006-2010 Forecast, also issued last month, Humphreys predicts that an already strong virtualisation software market will expand to more than US$1.8 billion (NZ$2.7 billion) in 2009. The market stands at about US$810 million today, up 46% from US$560 million in 2005.

All I know is that the market is going to be really big.
