In an interesting twist, VMWare has added six virtual hard disk (VHD) images from Microsoft to the VMWare virtual appliance directory. These machines were orginally released for Microsoft Virtual Server and Microsoft Virtual PC. But VMWare is saying that you can run these unmodified using VMWare Player, VMWare Server and VMWare ESX. The catch … some people are reporting that doing this causes the machines to trigger the Windows activation code. It’s unclear at this point exactly how well the machines are working, but it is an interesting thing to see and as far as I know these are the first machines running Windows to be added to the VMWare directory.
